Recent graduates from a qualifying educational institution having completed an academic program within the preceding two years.

Job Summary

The Functional Foods Research Unit creates new processing technologies to enhance the performance of agricultural materials in existing applications and develops new functional food products to promote human health using cereal grains, oilseeds, and non-traditional food plants. The Physical Science Technician will work with the Research Team and provide support in the creation of these new technologies.
Note: Veterans who were precluded by their military service obligation from meeting the 2-year requirement above, will have an additional full 2-year period of eligibility upon release or discharge from active duty.

This position is located in the Agricultural Research Service, Funcational Food Research Unit, in Peroria, IL.

Recent Graduate appointments are intended to last for 1 year. Recent Graduates who satisfactorily complete the USDA Recent Graduates Program and meet all eligibility requirements for conversion may be non-competitively converted to a Term or Permanent appointment in the competitive service. Recent Graduates converted to Term appointments may later be non-competitively converted to a Permanent competitive service position.

The duration of the Recent Graduate's appointment in the excepted service is the trial period. Prior Federal civilian service may be creditable toward the completion of the required trial period.
